The Business Ready programme provides fully funded support to ambitious, tech-based SMEs who share a common determination to succeed. We support a diverse portfolio of clients by helping them meet their potential by overcoming the barriers to scalability and sustainable growth.

We are into the second iteration of this successful programme and looking to add key skills to our friendly and experienced team.

Applicants should evidence, either in their CV or covering letter, proven skills in at least one or more of the following areas:

• Access to finance
• Digital and enabling technologies (including 5G and AI/ML)
• Electric and autonomous vehicles
• Market development or change management.

You are someone who understands the unique challenges that drive SME business growth. You have a track record of success working across sectors and industries. You are able to engage and establish trust quickly, and draw on a range of experiences to support the business and its management team. You know your limits and are able to judge when best to bring in supplementary expertise to support the client.

Working out of University of Warwick Science Park you will be joining an experienced, friendly and supportive group who are passionate about making a positive difference and helping to drive success in the West Midlands. Experience of operating within an ERDF (or equivalent) funding environment would be desirable. Roles may be part-time or full-time depending on the mix of talents selected to constitute the team.

Senior Power Electronics Engineer

Lyra Electronics

Are you an innovative, high calibre senior design engineer wanting to join a fast-growth technology company in a fast-moving industry? Then look no further!

Lyra Electronics is a small high-tech engineering company working at the cutting edge of power electronics technologies. We specialise in DC-DC converters, motor drive inverters, battery management systems and other power electronics topologies to support electrification of transport and green industries.

We are now looking to recruit a creative senior power electronics engineer to join our busy engineering team and play a key part in the growth and success of our business.

Lyra has invested heavily in the latest test equipment and facilities meaning you will have only the best resources to work with. You will be designing, building and testing power electronics systems from concept to prototype and into production. You will have hands-on involvement all the way!

Responsibilities include:

  • Specification writing and interpretation.
  • Circuit design and simulation of DC-DC, AC-DC converters using hard, soft and resonant switching techniques.
  • PCB design from schematics.
  • Power electronics circuit layout.
  • Design interface, gate drive and control PCBs.
  • Prototyping and product development on the bench.
  • Product / Project documentation (e.g. design notes, bills of materials, user manuals)
  • Writing embedded control software as required.
  • Day-to-day project management and reporting.
  • Liaison with customers and suppliers, occasionally working on customer sites with their engineers.

You must be degree qualified in Electronics Engineering or equivalent and possess experience of working in a similar field of Power Electronics. You will have a keen eye for detail, creative problem-solving skills and the ability to work individually and as part of a team.

Other skills

  • Knowledge of CAN bus communications.
  • Practical soldering skills (using a microscope) required for PCB assembly.
  • Knowledge of the use and limitations of lab test equipment and instrumentation.
  • Experience of Matlab / Simulink / LabVIEW / MISRA C an advantage.
  • Familiar with product delivery process from requirements capture to design validation, preferably for power electronics or electric vehicle electronics.
  • Knowledge of designing for high voltages and high currents an advantage.
  • Proven delivery of goals while working to tight timescales.
  • Experience of DFMEA an advantage.

We are now looking to recruit a highly-skilled senior embedded software engineer to join our busy engineering team and play a key part in the growth and success of our business.

Lyra has invested heavily in the latest test equipment and facilities meaning you will have only the best resources to work with. You will be developing embedded software for power electronics systems from concept to prototype and into production.

Responsibilities include:

  • Specification writing and interpretation.
  • Software architecture design.
  • Low level firmware development for real time critical peripherals e.g. ADCs, PWMs.
  • High level control software
  • Communications software.
  • Test and validation of software algorithms.
  • Product / Project documentation (e.g. design notes, user manuals etc).
  • Day-to-day project management and reporting.
  • Liaison with customers and suppliers, occasionally working on customer sites with their engineers.

You must be degree qualified in Electronics Engineering or equivalent and possess experience of developing embedded C applications. You will have a keen eye for detail, creative problem-solving skills and the ability to work individually and as part of a team.

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Lyra Electronics – Wellesbourne

Full Time – £36,000 to £50,000

This is a great opportunity for an engineer to develop new products from ideas through to prototypes and into production, with hands-on involvement all the way. Lyra has invested heavily in test equipment and facilities to ensure that everything required to develop the latest in power electronics is to hand.

The successful applicant will be taking ideas and customer requirements from a concept phase through to working prototypes.

Design will involve high current bus bars, enclosures to various IP levels, cold plate design, electronic circuit board placement, heatsinks, and cable and wire routing.

Responsibilities

  • Specification writing and interpretation.
  • Concept design and modelling in 3D CAD
  • Mechanical analysis, thermal and FE
  • Design for manufacture
  • Prototyping and product development on the bench.
  • Product / Project documentation (e.g. design notes, bills of materials, user manuals).
  • Day-to-day project management and reporting.
  • Liaison with customers and suppliers, occasionally working on customer sites with their engineers.
  • Inspection and quality control

Minimum educational qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Minimum previous experience

  • Four years working within a similar field of mechanical design.
